What Has Happened?

The PTA (Parent Teachers Association) has in the past provided the ‘extras’ for the school from fund raising events such as the summer fair, quiz nights, fashion shows, disco’s etc. Recently due to the pressures of work and family life, the attendance for these has dropped as has the participation at a committee level on the PTA. This has triggered some serious consideration as to how we approach parents for any additional funding needed by the school.

How can we do it?

There are currently around 243 pupils in the school, or 170 families. We are looking for an annual voluntary charitable donation of £30 per family, or put another way £10 per term. This can be paid in full at the start of the year or by standing order over the year. We are registered for gift aid, so if you are a UK taxpayer, we can reclaim 28% on top of your donation, making the total £38.40.

How will it help?

This will mean an annual income to the school of £6,528…. if everyone contributes! It IS voluntary and we would welcome whatever you felt your family could afford, assuring you that all money received will go directly in to school budget with no administrative fees or deductions.

Think of it as a form of direct taxation. If the government levied a new education tax of £30 per year and assured you that 100% of this would go directly in to your child’s school, you would probably think that this was one of the few fair taxes that you have paid in your life!

What’s in it for all of us?

We will inform you at the end of the year how the money was spent and invite you to attend meetings to offer any help or feedback. As a reflection of this, we will be scaling down the general PTA activity through the year so that you won’t be constantly hounded for sponsorship money or to buy tickets for events. We will be maintaining our traditional major events such as the summer fair and Christmas event that will hopefully continue to raise further valuable funds to enhance our children’s learning and playing experiences at Greenmount Primary School.

So that Greenmount Primary School PTA, as a registered charity, can claim gift aid on your contribution, we would ask for your permission to do so.

Thank You
